第26章 Ne rds and Ge eks(4)

Finally, since tea contains fluoride ( 氟化物) ,it can strengthen tooth and helpprevent tooth decay. In laboratory studies,Japanese researchers found that tea alsokeeps dental plaque ( 牙斑) from forming and kills some oral bacteria that can causegum disease.

How much tea do you need to drink to get its health benefits? Studies suggestfour or five servings per day, says Weisburger; others say fewer servings might help.

Researchers are unsure whether adding lemon or milk to tea makes it less beneficial.Adding sugar may promote tooth decay. So until more is known,it??s probably smartto drink your tea straight up.

Fortunately, drinking iced tea that has been brewed is just as beneficial asdrinking hot tea, says Weisburger. This is good news in the United States, where icedtea was served as early as 1904 at the St. Louis World??s Fair . Today Americans drinknearly 80 percent of their tea iced - enough to fill roughly 128 ,000 swimming pools.

( 3)

A patient came to see me about the stress in her life. She described all the thingsshe had to do - one was to make her bed - from the moment she woke up until sheflew out the door for work. I suggested she experiment by not making her bed for twoweeks. She was shocked, probably thinking I??d been raised by wolves in a forest.

However ,she went along with my idea.

Two weeks later she breezed into my office beaming. She had left her bedunmade for the first time in 42 years - and nothing bad had happened. “And youknow what? ”she said.“ I don??t dry my dishes anymore, either . ”

This woman had made two major breakthroughs. One was discovering that shehad choices in her life that she had never seen before. The other was giving herselfpermission to be less than perfect. This story illustrates an important principle aboutmanaging time: No one can do it all. Each of us has to make choices and accepttrade-offs. The problem is,many people choose in ways that put themselves and theirhealth last. They take better care of their houses and cars than they do of themselves. They put everyone else??s needs ahead of their own.

So what is the solution? In a word, prioritize. Decide what you want in yourlife, and put that first. On a daily basis, that should include regular meals, adequatesleep and time with your family. Exercise, leisure, friendships and hobbies shouldalso be regular aspects of life. The point is to do something for yourself every day.The choice is yours: whatever makes you feel good about yourself and your life. Takea nap. Take a walk. Take time to play the piano. Of course, you??ll have to trade offsome of the things that are currently blocking your schedule to make room for yournew priorities. Stop bringing your briefcase home from the office. Stop keeping yourhouse as clean as your mother kept hers. Fill more of your time with want-to-dosinstead of have-to-dos.

1. What is the solution to the problem of managing time?

A. Doing more exercises every day.

B. Taking time to visit friends regularly.

C. Stopping making bed occasionally.

D. Doing what you want to do first.

2. What does the word“ beaming”in line 1,paragraph 2 probably mean?

A. Worrying. B. Smiling. C. Depressed. D. Excited.

3. What is the major problem of most people managing time?

A. Most people do not take care of their health.

B. Most people put others??needs ahead of their own.

C. Most people cannot keep balance on managing time.

D. Most people do not take time to relax themselves.

4. What is the author??s attitude toward people??s problem of managing time in thepassage?

A. Matter-of-fact. B. Negative.

C. Indifferent. D. Worried.
