The views on food are influenced① by culture, family background, knowledge of the science of nutrition, and eating habits. People in different areas of the world eat different kinds of things and have a preference② for certain foods. But, no matter what they eat or what they prefer to eat, they all agree that the food they have every day should provide the necessary nutrition and energy③ for their growth, their health, and for their daily activities.
What kinds of foods are needed every day? Scientific studies show that there are six classes of foods a person needs every day. They are as follows:
1. Vegetables and fruits of all kinds, such as cabbages, beans, peas, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, potatoes and peaches, apples, bananas, and so on.
2. Meat of all kinds. Examples of these are pork, beef, chicken, duck, fish and shrimps.
3. Eggs of all kinds.
4. Milk and foods made from milk, such as cheese and ice cream.
5. Oils or something containing fat, including animal oils and plant oils.
6. Cereals of all kinds.
It doesn’t matter how many times a day a person eats, or whether foods are eaten raw or cooked, canned or frozen. The important thing is that every day he should eat something from each of the above six kinds of foods. Only in this way can he be strong and healthy, and full of vigour and vitality④.

人每天需要哪些食物呢?科学研究表明,有六种食物是人每天所必须的,它们是:
1.各种蔬菜和水果,如卷心菜、蚕豆、豌豆、莴苣、西红柿、洋葱、马铃薯以及桃子、苹果、香蕉等;
2.肉类食品,如猪肉、牛肉、鸡肉、鸭肉、鱼、虾等;
3.蛋类食品;
4.乳和乳制品,如乳酪、冰淇淋等;
5.油脂或含油脂的食物,包括动物油脂和植物油脂;
6.谷类食品。
